Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon green onions, finely chopped (plus more for garnish)
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons liquid honey
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch (or flour)
- 2 tablespoons water
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, chopped green onions, egg, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Form the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into approximately 15 evenly sized meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, and set aside on a plate.
- Cook the Meatballs: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a light coating of oil. Place the meatballs in the skillet, cooking them in batches if necessary, and brown on all sides for about 8-10 minutes until fully cooked through. Remove the cooked meatballs and set aside.
- Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, combine rice vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, and minced garlic. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Thicken the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water until smooth. Slowly pour this slurry into the simmering sauce, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 2 minutes.
- Coat the Meatballs in Sauce: Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Toss gently to coat each meatball evenly, cooking for another 2-3 minutes so the flavors meld and the meatballs are heated through.
- Garnish and Serve: Transfer the sticky honey garlic meatballs to a serving dish. Sprinkle with additional chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish. Serve warm as an appetizer or with rice or noodles for a satisfying meal.
