Description

This Slow Cooker Beef and Cheddar Sandwiches recipe delivers tender, flavorful shredded beef seasoned with spices and cooked to perfection in a slow cooker. Served on toasted buns with melted cheese and zesty sauces, it’s perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal that can be prepared effortlessly ahead of time.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Beef

  • 3 lbs. beef chuck roast
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 white onion, sliced
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your preferred brand)

For Serving

  • Hamburger buns
  • Arby's sauce or barbecue sauce
  • Horseradish mayo or Horsey sauce
  • Cheddar cheese slices, nacho cheese, or Cheez Whiz

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Add the chuck roast to the slow cooker. Sprinkle over the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and brown sugar. Pour the Worcestershire sauce over the meat.
  2. Add Onions and Sauce: Slice the white onion into rings and place over the roast. Pour the barbecue sauce on top of the onions and beef.
  3. Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low for 9 hours until the beef is tender and easily shredded.
  4. Shred the Beef: Remove the beef from the slow cooker onto a plate, discard excess fat, and shred with two forks. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the juices in the slow cooker.
  5. Combine and Degrease: Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker with the juices. If greasy, degrease with a paper towel. Keep onions in the cooker if desired.
  6. Prepare Buns: Toast the hamburger buns if desired for extra flavor and texture.
  7. Assemble Sandwiches: Place the shredded beef and onions on the buns, top with cheddar cheese, and add Arby’s sauce and Horsey sauce to taste.

Notes

  • Nutrition values are for the meat only and do not include buns, cheese, or toppings.
  • Store leftovers in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to three months.
