For the Beef
- 3 lbs. beef chuck roast
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 white onion, sliced
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (your preferred brand)
For Serving
- Hamburger buns
- Arby's sauce or barbecue sauce
- Horseradish mayo or Horsey sauce
- Cheddar cheese slices, nacho cheese, or Cheez Whiz
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef: Add the chuck roast to the slow cooker. Sprinkle over the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and brown sugar. Pour the Worcestershire sauce over the meat.
- Add Onions and Sauce: Slice the white onion into rings and place over the roast. Pour the barbecue sauce on top of the onions and beef.
- Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low for 9 hours until the beef is tender and easily shredded.
- Shred the Beef: Remove the beef from the slow cooker onto a plate, discard excess fat, and shred with two forks. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the juices in the slow cooker.
- Combine and Degrease: Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker with the juices. If greasy, degrease with a paper towel. Keep onions in the cooker if desired.
- Prepare Buns: Toast the hamburger buns if desired for extra flavor and texture.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Place the shredded beef and onions on the buns, top with cheddar cheese, and add Arby’s sauce and Horsey sauce to taste.
