Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups (281 g) all purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 tbsp ground pumpkin pie spice
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 10 tbsp (140 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups (300 g) granulated white sugar
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk, at room temperature
- 1 cup (244 g) canned pumpkin puree
Glaze
- 1 1/2 cups (195 g) powdered sugar
- 6 tbsp (90 ml) maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp ground pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan well to prevent sticking.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated. Then add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk and canned pumpkin puree, mixing until smooth.
- Combine all ingredients: Alternately add the dry flour mixture and the pumpkin-buttermilk mixture to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing.
- Fill donut pans: Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared donut pans, filling each cavity about three-quarters full.
- Bake the donuts: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more syrup or powdered sugar as needed.
- Glaze the donuts: Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze and set them back on the wire rack to allow the glaze to set.
Notes
- These are the best pumpkin spice donuts—extra moist and full of pumpkin spice flavor.
- The spiced maple glaze perfectly complements the donuts, adding a sweet finish.
- Make sure the donuts are fully cooled before glazing to prevent the glaze from sliding off.
- You can store the glazed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Use canned pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, for the best flavor balance.
