Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups (281 g) all purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1 tbsp ground pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 10 tbsp (140 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups (300 g) granulated white sugar
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 1 cup (244 g) canned pumpkin puree

Glaze

  • 1 1/2 cups (195 g) powdered sugar
  • 6 tbsp (90 ml) maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp ground pumpkin pie spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan well to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated. Then add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  5. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk and canned pumpkin puree, mixing until smooth.
  6. Combine all ingredients: Alternately add the dry flour mixture and the pumpkin-buttermilk mixture to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  7. Fill donut pans: Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared donut pans, filling each cavity about three-quarters full.
  8. Bake the donuts: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more syrup or powdered sugar as needed.
  10. Glaze the donuts: Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze and set them back on the wire rack to allow the glaze to set.

Notes

  • These are the best pumpkin spice donuts—extra moist and full of pumpkin spice flavor.
  • The spiced maple glaze perfectly complements the donuts, adding a sweet finish.
  • Make sure the donuts are fully cooled before glazing to prevent the glaze from sliding off.
  • You can store the glazed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Use canned pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, for the best flavor balance.
