Description

A festive and easy-to-make Peppermint White Chocolate Popcorn recipe combining the crunch of popcorn with creamy white chocolate and refreshing peppermint candy cane pieces, perfect for holiday gifting or snacking.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • 10-12 cups popped popcorn*

Chocolate & Peppermint

  • 12 oz white chocolate chips or candy melts
  • 6 peppermint striped candy canes

Optional

  • Red sanding sugar, for decorating

Instructions

  1. Prepare Popcorn: Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl. Carefully pick through the popcorn to remove any un-popped or very hard kernels to ensure a pleasant texture.
  2. Crush Candy Canes: Put the peppermint striped candy canes into a large freezer bag and crush them into fine pieces using a hammer or rolling pin. You can choose the size of the pieces, from a fine powder to a chunkier texture depending on your preference.
  3. Melt White Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips by heating on high for 40 seconds. Remove and stir thoroughly until the chocolate is completely smooth and fluid.
  4. Combine Chocolate and Popcorn: Drizzle half of the melted white chocolate over the popcorn in the bowl. Using a large wooden spoon, gently toss the popcorn with the chocolate, stirring carefully to avoid breaking the popcorn pieces.
  5. Add Candy Cane Pieces: Drizzle the remaining white chocolate over the popcorn, then sprinkle in half of the crushed candy cane pieces. Stir gently again to evenly distribute the peppermint flavor.
  6. Set the Popcorn: Spread the chocolate-coated popcorn evenly onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Immediately sprinkle the remaining crushed candy canes over the popcorn. If desired, add red sanding sugar on top for extra festive decoration.
  7. Allow to Harden: Let the popcorn sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes to allow the white chocolate to fully harden before transferring the popcorn into an airtight container for storage.
