Description

This Homemade Taco Pizza combines the classic flavors of a taco into a delicious, cheesy pizza. Using crescent dough as the crust, it’s topped with seasoned ground beef, a blend of Colby and Monterey jack cheeses, fresh tomatoes, green onions, and optional garnishes like cilantro, sour cream, and hot sauce, making it a flavorful and fun meal perfect for gatherings or family dinners.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Crust

  • 16 ounces (2 8-ounce) crescent dough sheets

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 ounces (2 1-ounce) packages mild taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water

Cheese and Toppings

  • 3 1/2 cups freshly shredded Colby and Monterey jack cheese
  • 1 cup quartered grape tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced green onions

Garnishes (Optional)

  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • Sour cream
  • Hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F to prepare for baking the pizza crust.
  2. Prepare the crust: Unroll the first container of crescent dough sheets and gently stretch it to cover half of an ungreased baking sheet. Unroll the second container and stretch it to cover the other half, allowing overlap. Press the seams together to seal and use a fork to pierce the dough carefully.
  3. Bake the crust: Place the baking sheet with the crust in the oven and bake for 10 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Cook the ground beef: While the crust bakes, heat a 2 to 4-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and stir frequently until it is no longer pink, about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Add seasoning: Reduce heat to medium, stir in both taco seasoning packets and the water, then cook for 5 more minutes before removing from heat.
  6. Assemble the pizza: Remove the crust from the oven and evenly spread the seasoned taco meat over the crust.
  7. Add cheese and bake: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the cooked meat, then return the pizza to the oven. Bake for an additional 4-5 minutes until the cheese is completely melted.
  8. Add fresh toppings and garnish: Remove the pizza from the oven and sprinkle with quartered grape tomatoes, sliced green onions, and chopped cilantro if using. Drizzle with sour cream and hot sauce as desired before serving immediately.

Notes

  • Using crescent dough sheets as the crust makes for a buttery, flaky base that’s easy to work with.
  • Adjust the taco seasoning amount based on your preferred spice level or use a homemade blend.
  • Leftover pizza can be refrigerated and reheated, but toppings like sour cream are best added fresh before serving.
  • For a crispier crust, consider baking the dough a couple minutes longer before adding toppings.
