Description

A savory Hamburger Mushroom Bake combining seasoned ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, and a creamy cream cheese and egg sauce, baked to perfection and topped with parmesan cheese. This comforting, one-dish meal is easy to prepare and perfect for a hearty family dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb. Ground beef
  • 1 lb. Sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tsp. Minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. Chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Dairy and Eggs

  • 2 Tbsp. Unsalted butter
  • 6 oz. Cream cheese, softened
  • 3 Large eggs
  • Parmesan cheese for garnish

Seasoning

  • 1 tsp. Seasoning salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Brown the ground beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drain off any excess fat and set the beef aside.
  3. Sauté the mushrooms: In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until tender, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add seasonings to mushrooms: Stir in the minced garlic, seasoning salt, chopped fresh parsley, and pepper to taste. Sauté the mixture for another minute to blend the flavors.
  5. Prepare the cream cheese sauce: Using a food processor or blender, blend the softened cream cheese and eggs together until smooth and creamy.
  6. Assemble the bake: Pour the cream cheese and egg mixture over the browned ground beef and mix gently. Transfer this mixture to the bottom of a well-greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
  7. Add mushrooms on top: Spread the sautéed mushroom mixture evenly over the ground beef mixture in the baking dish.
  8. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes until the casserole is set and slightly golden.
  9. Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle parmesan cheese on top as a garnish. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain excess fat from the ground beef to keep the bake from becoming greasy.
  • Using fresh mushrooms will give the best flavor but you can substitute with canned mushrooms if needed.
  • Softening the cream cheese before blending helps achieve a smooth sauce without lumps.
  • Parmesan cheese adds a nice salty finish but can be omitted or replaced with another hard cheese if desired.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
