Description

Celebrate Halloween with this festive Halloween Brownie Pie featuring a rich, fudgy brownie base baked inside a flaky pie crust, studded with colorful Halloween M&M’s, and topped with vibrant swirls of orange, yellow, and white buttercream frosting adorned with candy accents. Perfect for spooktacular parties and seasonal treats.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie

  • 1 refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 (13×9) box brownie mix
  • 1 cup Halloween M&M’s, plus extra for garnish

Frosting

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • Orange gel food color
  • Yellow gel food color

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s hot enough for baking the brownie pie evenly.
  2. Prepare Pie Crust: Unroll the refrigerated pie crust and carefully place it into a 9 ½ inch deep dish pie plate. Crimp the edges neatly to seal. Place the pie crust in the refrigerator to keep it chilled while you prepare the brownie batter.
  3. Make Brownie Batter: Prepare the brownie mix according to the instructions on the box. Once mixed, gently fold in 1 cup of Halloween M&M’s by hand to evenly distribute the candies without crushing them.
  4. Fill and Bake: Pour the prepared brownie batter into the chilled pie crust. To prevent the crust edges from burning, cover them with aluminum foil or use a pie crust shield. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  5. Cool Brownie Pie: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack to set the texture and ease frosting application.
  6. Prepare Frosting: Beat the softened butter, salt, and vanilla extract together until creamy using a mixer. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream, beating until the frosting becomes light and creamy.
  7. Color Frosting: Divide frosting into three portions. Leave ¼ cup white for piping with icing tip 21. Tint ½ cup orange for icing tip 32. Tint the remaining frosting yellow for icing tip 1M to create colorful decorations.
  8. Decorate Pie: Using the prepared piping bags, pipe yellow swirls around the edge of the pie. Repeat piping with orange frosting, then white frosting on top of the yellow swirls. Place a brown M&M on each frosting swirl for decoration.

Notes

  • For a homemade touch, make a double batch of homemade chocolate chip brownies instead of a box mix.
  • Use leftover Halloween candy like mini candy bars, Reese’s Pieces, peanut butter cups, or Junior Mints to customize your pie toppings.
  • Allow the pie to cool completely before frosting; if the brownie is warm, the frosting swirls may melt and lose shape.
  • Using three separate pastry bags fitted with various cake tips helps create precise and beautiful frosting swirls.
  • To cut clean slices, dip a knife in hot water, dry it well, and slice slowly to avoid crumbly edges.
