Description

This Cinnamon Sugar Swirled Apple Butter Bread is a delightful fall treat, combining the warm flavors of cinnamon, apple butter, and honey with a moist bread base studded with juicy Honeycrisp apples. The swirl of cream cheese adds a creamy richness, while the honey butter spread enhances each slice with sweetness and a touch of saltiness. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon snack alongside a cup of coffee.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Sugar Swirl

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Bread Batter

  • 1/3 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup apple butter
  • 1/4 cup yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour or whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 Honeycrisp apples, chopped (about 3/4 cup)

Cream Cheese Swirl

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

Honey Butter

  • 4 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch bread pan well with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Make Cinnamon Sugar Mix: In a small bowl, stir together the granulated sugar and cinnamon to create the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  3. Mix the Batter: In a large bowl, combine the melted coconut oil, apple butter, honey, yogurt or sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, and milk. Stir until fully combined. Add the flour, baking soda, and kosher salt, mixing gently until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  4. Assemble the Bread Layers: Spoon half of the batter into the prepared bread pan, smoothing it out evenly. Using a teaspoon, dollop small amounts of the cream cheese evenly over the batter. Gently swirl the cream cheese into the batter using a sharp paring knife. Next, layer the chopped Honeycrisp apples evenly over the cream cheese. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apples. Carefully spoon the remaining batter evenly on top; it’s okay if the apples show through. Finally, sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar on top.
  5. Bake the Bread: Bake in the preheated oven for 55 to 65 minutes, or until the center is just set. To prevent the top from burning, you may cover the bread loosely with foil halfway through baking.
  6. Prepare Honey Butter: While the bread bakes, combine the softened butter, honey, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl. Mix until smooth and spreadable.
  7. Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan. Serve warm or at room temperature with a generous spread of the prepared honey butter for a delicious finish.

Notes

  • This bread is a slightly healthier alternative to typical coffee shop sweets, making it a perfect fall treat packed with natural sweetness and wholesome ingredients.
  • If you prefer, substitute Greek yogurt or low-fat sour cream to slightly reduce fat content.
  • Cover with foil halfway through baking to prevent over-browning on the top.
  • Use Honeycrisp apples for their sweetness and texture, but feel free to substitute with Granny Smith or Fuji apples if desired.
  • Serve slices fresh, or toast them lightly for a crunchy texture.
