Main Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped (or 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
- 3 cups water or beef broth
Sauce and Flavor
- 1 (.87 to 1.0-ounce) packet brown gravy mix
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cheddar cheese soup
Add-ins
- 2 cups uncooked macaroni
- 2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef and Onions
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onions over medium heat. Cook thoroughly, ensuring the beef is fully browned and the onions are softened. Once cooked, drain any excess grease and return the skillet with the meat to the heat. - Add Garlic
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes. Cook until the garlic is fragrant, ensuring it doesn’t burn. - Combine Ingredients for the Sauce
Add the brown gravy mix, cheddar cheese soup, and water to the skillet. Stir thoroughly to combine the ingredients. If you are using garlic and onion powders instead of fresh, add them at this stage. - Cook the Pasta
Stir the uncooked macaroni into the skillet, ensuring the pasta is fully coated in the sauce. Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the mixture to cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is al dente or cooked to your preference. - Add the Cheese
Stir in the shredded mild cheddar cheese. Mix until the cheese is completely melted into the sauce and evenly coats the pasta. - Serve
Serve the Cheesy Hamburger Skillet immediately while warm. Enjoy it freshly prepared for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- If you don’t have cheddar cheese soup, use a combination of heavy cream and shredded cheese for a homemade substitute.
- For added vegetables, stir in frozen peas, diced bell peppers, or spinach during the last few minutes of cooking.
- Use lean ground beef or ground turkey to make the dish lighter.
- Make sure to stir occasionally so the pasta doesn’t stick to the skillet.
