Ingredients

Units Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 packs ramen or noodles of choice (170 grams total)
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, chopped into bite sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup water (for steaming broccoli)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

The Sauce

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup unsalted or low sodium beef broth
  • 1 tbsp sriracha
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 heaping tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped fine
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, chopped fine
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Garnish (optional)

  • Sesame seeds
  • Green onions
  • Peanuts

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles: Cook ramen or noodles according to package instructions but take off the heat 2 minutes before fully done, as they will finish cooking later. Drain and set aside until needed.
  2. Prepare steak: Thinly slice flank steak into bite-sized pieces. Place in a medium bowl and add 1 tsp sesame oil and 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently and let rest while preparing other ingredients.
  3. Prepare broccoli: Wash and chop broccoli into bite-sized florets. Set aside.
  4. Mix sauce: In a small bowl, combine olive oil, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, sriracha, honey, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and add cornstarch last. Whisk thoroughly to remove lumps.
  5. Cook beef: Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat and add a splash of canola or peanut oil. When hot, add beef and fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked to preference. Remove beef and set aside. Reduce heat to medium.
  6. Steam broccoli: Add broccoli and 1/4 cup water to the pan. Cover with a lid and steam for 2-3 minutes or until broccoli reaches desired tenderness.
  7. Combine and simmer: Lower heat to low-medium, return beef to the pan, then add cooked noodles. Pour over the prepared sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Toss and finish: Gently toss everything together so noodles, beef, and broccoli are evenly coated in sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary (considering broth and soy sauce saltiness).
  9. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and peanuts if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Extra protein: Add a hard boiled egg on top for additional protein.
  • Garnishes: Customize with peanuts, green onions, or chili crunch for extra flavor and texture.
  • Protein variations: Substitute flank steak with chicken, shrimp, or tofu for different tastes.
  • Noodle alternatives: Use udon, soba, or rice noodles depending on preference.
